Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal put on a master class of disgustingly dreadful acting. Their dialogue and method to which they have gone about playing these roles is excruciating to watch and weakens most of the key moments in the film. Deadpan delivery from Papa Quaid and the "I'm so shy and awkward so I must be cool and mysterious" presentation from his pompous, annoying and preppy son played by little jakey G make you want to punch the tv. They are not scene stealers here, rather, they are scene takers and film ruiners. I might have just made that word up but it still applies. Sela Ward tries to offset the ridiculously horrid Quaid and to her credit, she helps quite a bit. Other than that small bit of affairs, the film is insanely ridiculous and over the top - the shark gets jumped early on and more sharks keep jumping that shark and on and on it goes. Nonetheless, it does actually cover some interesting topics and manage to stay quite entertaining throughout. I like to have a certain amount of tv "filler" material to have on in the background while making dinner, doing chores etc. Something that can maintain my interest when it needs to, yet something I can afford to not pay attention to. This is on that list- the filler list.
Absolute trash from start to finish. This could've been an epic psychological terror. Instead we get plot holes and an annoying Moss with her unbearable rat face on screen throughout. They want us to believe this super genius world leader in optics would create the most powerful invention in the history of man, yet all he wants to do with it is torment his disgusting puffy faced nasty exgirlfriend. Ok sure. Felt like it lasted 5 hours long, not in a good way. The whole movie just feels awkward and "suffocating ". The over-acting and sniffling dialogue presented by moss will annoy you. Save yourself the trouble and rewatch any movie you love.
