Saving Private Ryan is not just the best war film ever put to movie screens. It is also one of the best movies of all time. The movie begins with an almost documentary type invasion of Normandy on D-Day. This is so realistic and so well done, you would almost think Spielberg and company had a time machine and filmed it the day it happen. The action is so intense and so amazing, you would think the movie would falter after this. But then again, it doesn't. This movie real story is about Captain John Miller leading a platoon of men to go save Private Ryan. He must save Private Ryan, because he is the only remaining son of a woman stateside. This seems ironic, because all these men must risk their lives for one mother's only living son. And as the squad is led through some dangerous turf, they don't know how much they will have to eventually risk to save one man. A wonderful told epic that just shows how much one life can really be worth.
For people who find pleasure in sexual kinks but aren't quite comfortable with their appetites, Luis Bunuel's 1967 classic ''Belle de Jour'' is the ultimate candy, offered in a manner that's elegant and nonjudgmental.
Starring a ravishing, letter-perfect Catherine Deneuve as Severine, a bored Parisian housewife who dabbles in prostitution, ''Belle de Jour'' is a wise, enormously enjoyable film about the power of fantasy: a toast to the importance of dreams.
Directing with cool, wicked detachment, Bunuel strips bare Deneuve's rich fantasy life and in brief flashbacks psychologizes Severine's taste for kink. Not to be missed.

Suite Habana is a perfect harmony of a story told entirely through the use of images and sounds, no dialogue but an Universal language instead. It follows the lives of several people in Havana during one day, impoverished and lacking but full of dignity. This is an exercise in world-class fimmaking, without selling out to commercialism.
As a Cuban American the effect of this film is heartbreaking, both in its complexity and depiction of a dilapidated society and a city in ruins. But I think it will also speak to several countries. Definitely the best film to come out of Cuba in the last 30 years. Not to be missed.
