  • Disappointment

For me there was just way too much, over-the-top, sensory and visual negative overload. A super hero (superman himself) that has the power to reverse the rotation of the entire planet earth, can't win a fist fight with some guy in a metal suit who's been pre-programmed with some fight moves? Without giving away too much, I'll just say, the uncomfortable brutality, th arguing, the emotional darkness, seemed to never end. Just one depressing situation after another, hard to watch stuff. I almost walked out. I found very little redeeming value to the movie. Certainly not even entertainment, except for a few moments of Krypto's activities.

  • Too dark and flat

This movie was very disappointing. Too dark, too unbelievable and with cardboard characters that certainly didn't peak my interest enough to even care about them. The plot, if you could call it that, was slow, uninteresting and boring. I actually fell asleep during the movie. I really missed Chris Reeve's beautiful blue eyes and kooky personality. Routh seemed uncomfortable in many of the scenes. Perhaps it was the lack of interesting dialog that was at fault. Kate Bosworth played the part with virtually no emotion. Again, perhaps it was bad dialog or bad direction. Kevin Spacey has ingeniously brought many weird characters to life in his past projects, but he really fell short on this one. Hackman's portrayal of Lex Luther was vibrant and insidious. Spacey's was flat and boring. Even the special effects were way over the realm of "suspension of disbelief". I found myself saying "Give me a break, that's impossible even for Superman!". But the biggest problem for me was the kid. I can't believe that Lois the career woman (just as the movie dialog suggests)would let herself get pregnant, at least not the way Margot Kidder played the character. If you are a die hard Superman fan you may enjoy it. For me, I'd rather watch Superman one or two over again.

  • Great character development, I cared about these people

I found this movie to be charming. I thought the characters were developed since as I watched, I found myself caring about these people. This is a period piece that I believe took place during the depression. A single mother, who is known as the town recluse (she has reason to be), puts an ad in the paper for "a Husband". Christopher Reeve plays a ex-con who happens into town looking for work. He sees the ad and he goes out to see her. She hires him. I really had some chuckles as their relationship progresses because I found it easy to put myself in their shoes. Everything went on so matter of fact. He needs the work so he doesn't want to upset her. And she needing his help, but doesn't want him to get the upper hand. They dance around the fact that they begin to really need each other. Things start warming up until ......the big blowup. I won't spoil it by telling you what happens. But the point of resolution is perfectly wonderful. I found the story to be very believable for the time it's taking place. I think this is one of the better "relationship" stories out there. Maybe the younger generation won't "get it" but if you are over 40 I think you'll like it. And if you liked Christopher Reeve in "Somewhere in Time" you'll like him in this one also.
