  • Return of Cruz

The return of Cruz was a welcome addition to the storyline. However, there are significant issues with the portrayal of her character that stand out, especially for viewers familiar with military structure and protocol.

First, the character is supposed to be a Marine, but the rank of "Sergeant First Class" is actually used by the U. S. Army, not the Marine Corps. The equivalent rank in the Marines would be Gunnery Sergeant.

Secondly, Cruz is shown wearing an Army uniform, which raises further questions about the character's service. If she's truly a Marine, why would she be wearing an Army uniform? Is this a deliberate plot point to suggest a transfer or reassignment, perhaps through a special program, such as those that occur between branches of the military or when personnel move to joint service assignments? Or is it simply an oversight by the show's creators?

This situation opens up an even bigger question: did the CIA somehow facilitate a transfer from the Marine Corps to the Army? While such transfers can happen under certain circumstances, it would be a rare. It's a common issue where military accuracy takes a backseat.

  • Unsat representation of Marine Corps Uniform

Typical Hollywood trying to represent a military uniform. Ricky returns from recruit training and his uniform is in shambles, his rifle marksmanship badge is hanging off and the Eagle Globe and Anchor is not properly displayed on the uniform on his left collar. It is a disgrace to display a Marine Corps uniform in this way if you're going to continue to write about military personnel, you need to get the details correct. One thing that Ricky learned at recruit training at MCRD San Diego was attention to detail he would make sure that his uniform would not look like this in public. It is a dishonor to the 249 years of Marine Corps history. Then he shows up at the coffee shop wearing his cover (hat) improperly.

  • Inaccuracy on U.S. Marines

Just like every other movie that has U. S. Marines in it, This one shows improper wear of uniforms and addressing people by the wrong rank. It is really annoying when the screen writers and directors don't take the time to check. It only takes a few minutes to have a Marine review that portion of the script so you can get it right. Contact a military technical advisor for advice and support. It makes a huge difference. If you need assistance there are many veterans in the screen writers guild and other parts of the industry. There are also veterans that would be happy to help just for accuracy.
