It's an ok movie. Maybe a good one. It follows the same recipe as so many other Oscar- worthy movies we be seen over the years. If you want to see what you were supposed to be seeing watch this. Otherwise go find an exciting movie that will surprise you make you think and excite you while leaving you wanting more. You want some examples? Watch small time crimes, or sexy beast, or big Lebowski, or maybe Brazil. There are so many amazing movies don't waste your precious time in a good movie...
What a great wold would have been if we did not flood the cinemas to watch big budget blockbusters and instead we rewarded indie flicks that have soul and character... Indie flicks such as this one.
From the 1st few moments you can understand that we are in for something very interesting, real and unique. Watching John Hawkes beer drinking and muscle building at the same time - while throwing up in between - while at the same time Good Times by Eric Burdon is playing you can tell that you are in for a treat.
Hawkes character is extremely convincing as the alcoholic ex cop who has no reason to live. But after a tragic event it seems that he has found a reason to live - or die. He embarks on a dark journey that involves small time crooks that gets serious and personal.
The support cast is superb, the directing - esp at times - is exceptional, and the movie is one of the greatest surprises that i have had.
A must watch! Enjoy!
