So difficult to write about this without spoilers but I really do think this is a horror masterpiece. The sense of dread builds throughout in a Magnolia style screenplay that reveals many more layers. Austin Abrams and Amy Madigan are superb but everyone brings their 'A' game. It all builds up to the craziest and jaw dropping climax to any movie I have seen. The movie is also a magnificent theatrical experience and best seen with a packed crowd. One minute they will be screaming and the next laughing hysterically sometimes at the same time. This is what a true Cinema experience can be but very rarely is. Unmissable.
Like seeing a comic book brought to life on the big screen this movie exceeded my expectations. James Gunn has made a movie that all ages will love and has found the definitive Superman in the wonderful David Corenswet. I could point out a few tiny flaws but when a film is so entertaining and fun and brings tears, laughter and cheers to audiences then I am going to overlook any tiny quibbles I might have and trust this brilliant vision of the universe from James Gunn and the fact that the movie has such a positive message in stating that kindness is something we should all aspire to is the icing on the cake. Go see it with as many people as possible - you will not be sorry and will want to see it again.
I do not use the masterpiece word lightly but this series deserves it. Compelling and with so many important topics covered in such an intricate and layered way. At times it almost threatens to become too much for the viewer but please stick with it and you will be rewarded. Acting from both leads is awards worthy and it is even more shocking that Richard Gadd is the person that the show is about. Deserves to win every award going and also deserves to be seen by as many people as possible. There is no such thing as the perfect victim. I thought I knew what this was going to be about after watching first few episodes. Boy was I wrong footed. Best thing Netflix has ever produced.
