When i decided to include this movie into my 2025 fall watch list, i knew it would likely be one of the weaker entries. Movie has a 3 something out of 10 on IMDB after all. But i am usually less demanding than the general audience and i was just curious to see "how bad" it could be. If anything maybe i would get a laugh out of it. I include movies like this as "filler" for my list. Stuff i am gonna watch in the afternoon when its raining to pass time or such.
But sadly this not a movie you can put in the "so bad its good" kind of territory. First yes the reviews are right, its a rip-off of Vacancy, wich in itself was not a movie i particulary liked. But whatever, i never mind a clone of something if its fun and done decent.
Then you got the main characters wich the guy is fine, but the woman is insufferable, at least at the start, so you really don't care much for her. One character that had some potential is completely wasted.
Otherwise the movie play on the trope of what you would expect and therefore is very predictable. Yet in my opinion, its really far from the biggest problem.
What is then? Well the movie does not make its protagonists much likable and its very oddly filmed. Every once in a while it will switch to some random snuff scene so it can have its "bodycount" but the issue is the tension is never built, you simply don't know anything about these characters, so don't really care, and on top of that its not even much bloody or gory, as the vast majority seem to happen offscreen.
What happen to the main characters is uninspired, amateurly shot for the most part, and overall you just get a very blend movie that run under 90 minutes but gives the impression that half of it is just time filler until the "action" finally start. When it does, its still rather boring.
This movie represent very well the late 2000s and 2010s direct to dvd schlock era. Very low budget, but a rather cool name (even if not original) and interesting cover (the one with the masks) that stand out. The kind of movie you would see at the video store and be like "oh why not, lets see" but 9 times out of 10 it end up being ..well what this movie was.

When Scream made its resurgeance, i felt it was only a matter of time before this franchise got its own comeback and well it followed pretty much the same path exept the show only had 1 season (unlike the Scream show wich had multiple) and here we are in 2025 with a movie simply titled "I know what you did last summer" like it would be a reboot but its in fact a sequel, much like Scream 5 wich ditched the number for reason i still don't understand.
I enjoyed the first 2 movies back in the days and while there was technically a third, it was a direct to video low budget wich wasn't good at all, wich anyway seem to be ignored entirely in this continuation (and thats totally fine).
This movie follow a new group of friends but follow a similar path as the first movie. An accident happen and one year later they are stalked by the Fisherman. You do have some legacy characters showing up but they are not the main focus.
Im gonna keep this spoiler free but lets just say the movie made some bold choices and was interesting to follow on who might be after them. That was probably the best aspect of the movie but its not gonna please everyone, thats for sure.
The characters were alright. Not the most interesting i ever seen, but not the worst either. For instance "Thanksgiving" had amazing kills and violence, but the characters were so bad it hindered my enjoyement of the movie as i couldn't care less who lived or died.
As for the rest, it is a pretty standard run of the will slasher. The kills are ...alright. I think they could had been more violents and originals in parts in my opinion, but a few were indeed cool. The chases/stalking could had been better as well, but it wasn't bad either. A couple ones stand out a bit more.
Altough this review may appear "negative" at first glance, i actually had decent fun with the movie. Its an alright slasher. I think there is less material to make something interesting sequels after sequels like Scream, but if you simply want to see young adults get the "axe" (or in this case the hook) it does its job fine. If they make another i will surely watch, but if that was a one and done, i am totally ok with it as well.
And so on this, my "Halloween Season Program" of 2025 has officially started. For the next 2 months i am gonna watch a lot of Horror/Halloween themed movies, so stay on the lookout.

I was not that familiar with Brittany Snow before i watched the 3 Pitch Perfect movies in the last months. But i think she was fantastic in these. Later on despite not liking that much the movie "X" she was a highlight for sure in it.
So when i saw this pass online randomly i was like "sure, ill watch that" and it turned out pretty good.
This movie is really a mix of "this would never happen in real life" situations but engulfed in a lot of heart. The characters mature, grow, become better, and even tough some may say the base of it is predictable, some scenes did surprised me.
Its not a "laugh out loud" type of movies but i had my share of chuckles and a few little laugh. When i watch a romcom i usually care more about the "rom" than the "com" anyway, as what i want is get attached to the characters and either relate to them or that they get me into a "wishful fantasy". Basically get "touched" by them... and i got that with this movie.
Is it an all time classic that i will want to watch again and again? Nah. But it was very enjoyable for 1 viewing. This was probably my last "regular" movie before starting my "Halloween 2025 program" in early September, so look forward for more horror movies in the coming weeks.
