If you watch 'Fight or Flight' and aren't immediately reminded of 'Bullet Train' from 2022 then you likely didn't see 'Bullet Train' back in 2022. The two movies are very similar, with a simple setting change from a train to a plane. 'Bullet Train' at least had some style and fun characters. 'Fight or Flight' was very hard to find anything likable about.
I like Josh Hartnett and I'm glad he's having a career resurgence. But I had a very hard time believing him in the invincible role he was playing here. It just didn't look right. He didn't look like a guy who could overpower 10 assassins all coming at him at once, time and again.
Anyone who knows anything about aircraft procedures is going to struggle with the absurdity of this movie. It truly is quite wild the things they thought people wouldn't notice. Even the small things like giving one of the pilots four stripes to imply he was the captain. Would it have killed them?
Maybe other people will be able to have more fun with this one than I did. I just couldn't find anything about it to like. I didn't care about the story, the fight sequences were okay but nothing special, and the absurdity of the concept was too much for me to overlook. 4/10.

Short review: Sometimes the only key to a films success is knowing exactly what it is, what it needs to do, and committing to the concept. 'The Toxic Avenger' knows exactly what it has to do to be successful. It has to be a little campy, not take itself too seriously, have some truly great kill scenes and keep the accelerator down at a non-stop pace. It does all those things and for that reason, a film that wouldn't usually be to my taste, was a very fun experience.
You can tell that the cast were having a blast making this. Every one of them seems to be given complete freedom to be as over the top and outrageous as they like. And they flourish. This was a fun one. 7/10.

Re-reading my review for 'The Accountant' back in 2016 (and spotting a typo - very embarrassing - why did no one tell me?) I noted that I couldn't see this becoming a franchise. It took them nine years to get a sequel out admittedly, but with how good this film was I could absolutely see us getting many more of these films.
The chemistry between Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal is what makes this movie. Yes the story is interesting enough, and there are some great action/fight sequences, but what I realised was that those two interacting was the strongest thing the movie had going.
There's a scene where the two of them are just sitting on a rooftop talking, and I realised after a while that this scene had been going on for quite some time, but I didn't mind because I was enjoying it as much as any other scene in the movie.
In 34 years on this earth I can't recall ever being wrong about anything. But I am willing to say I was likely partially incorrect about 'The Account' not getting multiple sequels. I will try and keep the weight off in between this time. 8/10.
