The couple's acting was quite mediocre, but that was not the issue.
The metaphor of the cellar door meaning a gateway the past, or dark secrets, has already been done in many books and movies ad nauseum. That's not the issue.
It's not horror. It's supposed to be a thriller, and not a great one at that either. However even that's not my issue with this film.
Personally, I didn't like it because of the message it's giving to couples.
THE PROBLEM IS THAT IT'S CONDONING LYING, CHEATING AND EVEN MURDER and things will be ok as long as you keep each other's secrets safe.
So, basically, be honest with your spouse (this part is good) but then, you get the house (relationship) back after you lied, or cheated, or murdered someone?
Nope.
Very disappointing for me.

Beautifully acted. Very real and relatable story. It reminded quite a bit of The Curse of la Llorona (2019). The struggles of single mom dealing with grief, responsibilities of chilcld care, self care, work, finances, running the house etc.
Happy ending simultaneous with acceting the truth about our imperfections and that we often have to keep working hard to keep the shadows out.
I really enjoyed it. Some parts, especially in the second half and toward the end, were a little confusing, but the message was clear.
Although depression does not cure itself, children, family and our loved ones can be such a great motivation to get treatment and try to heal, one step at a time.
