  • Beware of the censored DVD version

Outstanding action film that builds up like movies used to in the 70s. Unfortunately the DVD version is cut for television so the fight scenes are missing.

I did manage to see a poor, uncut version with Dutch subtitles burned into it a few years ago, but that's about the closest you'll find to it. Not the best shape but you can see the fight scenes in all their bloody glory.

I'm hoping somebody like Vinegar Syndrome will issue a remastered uncut version of it someday. Here's hoping that will happen.

2 for cut version 7 for uncut version.

PS: I heard Taylor actually hurt Smith in the fight scene. That's very possible, it's that brutal.

  • No Mike Bruce, No Glen Buxton

Probably because Bruce wrote a devastating book about his experiences in the band, and that he had written a lot of the material for the songs and that Alice 'abandoned them' after "Muscle Of Love" sessions were recorded. I think he's had an ax to grind with them ever since. Can't say I totally blame him either. He isn't even mentioned at the end of the film as if he didn't even exist.

Buxton was barely mentioned at all and not having an RIP at the end had to have been deliberate slap in the face on the filmmaker's part. Maybe Buxton was as bitter over the whole thing as Bruce was and the producers of this film followed the input from the management. Some kind of fallout occurred for this to happen

Not to mention, everything is done in voice-over and we don't get to see the participants as they are today. The scenes are done in that CGI diorama overlay style which is fine in some cases but I think overused here.

Overall, a not very satisfying documentary. 3 out of 10 for these glaring omissions.

  • Best Bruce Brown Movie

A couple of years ago, TCM showed a retrospective of Bruce Brown's surfing films from the 60s, including the well known "Endless Summer". But the one that stood out from all the rest was "On Any Sunday", a motorcycle film that still bears repeated viewings.

From what I understand, it was the film that actually introduced professional motocross racing to the rest of the country. It reminded me a lot of the 80s when I first started on trail bikes and then went to Enduro 2-strokes. I've since given up riding like that for the sake of the family, but man, it did bring back a lot of memories...

I wish I had seen it before the TCM showing but I never got around to it. Talk about falling through the radar!
