I watched the movie twice. I guess I must be a masochist. I truly wanted to believe that people on here and elsewhere ' missed the point' or maybe there was some hidden masterpiece to be unveiled & appreciated. But that was a ' fantasy' I had created & now I've left then fantasy comprehensively.
The first joker debases the joker archetype, but we are given the mental health struggle of the character representing Arthur Fleck. It was a movie that emerged us in the complexities & nuances of DID or schizophrenia/psychosis.
In the second movie we see no redemption of Arthur Fleck. He goes through even more extreme humiliation . It is clearly spelt out he has DID with childhood trauma.
But I can't help feeling that this movie just leaves you with a feeling of disgust. It's like it wanted to turn the viewer into the victim instead tell the story or present it in a way to deliver its message.
I'm not sure where the director was going with this one? Joker character was debased. Arthur Fleck as a human was debased. The justice system & society debased. I can only say the intention behind the movie was demoralisation like a back handed compliment or endless negging for 2hrs 18 mins. I don't want to be in an abusive relationship with a movie. I will give credit to the director because he probably has waken up people to just how messed up Holywood is with the scandals that keep coming out.

The underlying & not so occult message of this movie was disturbing. It's a multilayered movie that explores several themes. At the lowest ( and most graphic level) is the faustian bargain of the trade of her physical body to extend her career. At the psychological level there is a schism between her somewhat true self and her false/narcissistic self. Then at the esoteric level we are asked the questioned of what did she lose/gain at a spiritual & soul level ' to reach for the stars'. Matthew 16:26 comes to mind 'What will if profit a man/woman if they forfeit their soul?'. A thoughtful movie of about Holywood & celebrity culture that truly makes us think what a lot of these 'stars' sacrficised to get where they are.
The 2016-17 season 2 & 3 of Berserk is nothing compared to the original from 1997. I think most animes, movies and music were are up in the zeighest of the moment and have a special element to them. The 'new' Berserk continues Gut's journey. The CGI is overly ambitious, but i think it's worth looking past it if you can see WHAT the creator/director is trying to portray. I have not read the manga. Maybe i should? All I can say is that it hit me in the feels towards the end. The introduction of new characters added an element of charm and there was a feeling of a wholeness. I do hope there's one more season. It's an anime that you will remember for life/
