  • Funnier than I expected

I haven't heard of Fortune before her special popped up on my Netflix suggestions so I must admit I pre-judged the show thinking it was another boring "woke" commentary from Hollywood. Netflix has released some awful comedy recently but I watched it hoping I was wrong, and I was. It is a feel good comedy about growing up as an overweight lesbian with hilarious stories relating her experience. She was not complaining about how awful people can be (which again, is an aspect that is making some recent comedy shows a real drag), instead, think Bob Eucker or Rodney Dangerfield. No hackey jokes about the president which are just too easy. She veers into some sexual content but not for pure shock due to lack of comedic skill but rather more lighthearted jokes about boobs and whatnot, around PG-13 ish. I laughed a bunch of times and hope she gets more decent stand-up gigs because this was a refreshingly good time and she has lots of potential, so I gave this a well deserved 6/10. I would have rated higher if there were more constant laughs, but I must say she gained a fan.

  • Self serving and rarely funny

Russel Brand has been pretty funny with good direction in a few movies in which I have seen him act, but this brand of stand-up seemed to be more self serving than entertaining. Most of it is centered around recent political activities in which he has had a part and his opinion of how well he handled it and how much better off the world is for his involvement. There is a TV screen behind him that plays clips recent TV appearances of his (on the news) and it felt like he was telling anyone who would listen how cool he is. I did not laugh once, but trying to give him the benefit of the doubt I watched the whole thing to see if it would get more likable. Two or three times I said to myself "that was a funny line" but not enough to laugh, and I was really trying to get into the spirit of laughter, but it never happened. If you really like him, you may enjoy hearing more about him and what he has been up to, and that is what happens the whole time you will be watching this. If you want to hear comedy in general, this will disappoint.

  • Sandler like he was in the 90's

Adam Sandler is a genuinely funny and multi talented guy. This production hearkens back to his first comedy album, "They're All gonna Laugh at You!" He has come a long way since then with comedies, dramas, and even action movies, but this is reminiscent of the immature BS that made us laugh so much 25 years ago. Fart jokes, sex, gay stuff, F bombs and all that wrapped in a kindhearted delivery from a world class goofball with a genuine love for entertaining people. It is low brow comedy that does not rely on being disgusting or shocking; it somehow comes of on the cute side of that genre. Absolutely no political commentary! Just immature jokes from an older dude who continues to make me laugh with this new material. It's not for everyone (my parents would think it's stupid) but I loved it and will watch again.
