  • One of better Dolph Lundgren movies

I expected nothing from this straight to DVD thriller , especially remembering how painful were Lundgren earlier thriller efforts "Cover up" and "Jill ripps". I was somewhat pleasantly surprised . I've got something. One should not mistake "Hidden agenda" with a great movie , but it's reasonably entertaining time waster for a B-movie.

The plot seems to be inspired by the movie "Eraser" , however unlike Schwarzenegger movie it focuses more on the story than action set pieces (maybe because of the low budget) . This is techno thriller with only some action scenes here and there. Average action junkie might be disappointed. The movie actually feels realistic , something like this could happen in real life and that's a big plus for me.

The plot is fairly intelligent. The movie does make sense but it's unfortunately a little bit hard to follow . The main plot twist was too obvious and at the end the story gets muddled. This is one of those films where you can't tell the bad people from the good, so everyone is suspect. It kinda feels like there are too many characters in this movie. At the end not everything feels resolved and not every character motivations are clear. Big minus for that.

Lundgren gives a fine performance. It must have been a treat for him to play smart and classy guy , not muscle man. He gives his character Jason Price enough charm and intelligence to make audience care for him. Maxim Roy is very hot as the femme fatale and gives a okay performance. The rest of the cast is not bad , but nothing to write home about.

Director Marc S. Grenier obviously works on limited budget , but somehow manages to give this movie a certain atmosphere (the snow keeps falling all the time , the shots of city traffic are sped up ). Sadly , he fails when it comes to action scenes. The opening chase at the airport is decent , but things go downhill from there. The action scenes are badly "Matrix" stylized and the camera work is too shaky. The final gun battle is also poorly staged. In the end the action is below average.

The music is pretty cool . It's a quite catchy electronic score . The few CGI effects look like taken from 90's movie. The dialogues are decent.

Anyway , for a B-movie it does what it promises - provides harmless entertainment for one night. Compared to some other Lundgren movies (especially the rest of his DTV stuff) "Hidden agenda" is a quality movie. It remains one of Lundgren's better movies in quite awhile. I give it 4/10. Maybe I'm too harsh , if you're a Lundgren fan , give it one star more.

  • The Muscles from Brussels goes to Thailand

This is one of best Van Damme movies right there with "Bloodsport". In some ways I like "Kickboxer" even more than "Bloodsport". It's a simple revenge story that makes a good use of Van Damme's fighting skills. In this movie we explore the martial arts fundamentals of Muay Thai. It's the national sport of Thailand, where the fighter will condition his body so that his arms and legs become weapons capable of delivering blows, kicks in particular, that are three times as powerful as that of any ordinary martial artist. He'll also use his feet, fists, shins, and elbows too. It's the de facto fighting style for mixed martial arts.

The acting here is a mixed bag. Van Damme is very hammy and Dennis Alexio has no talent at all . On the other hand Dennis Chan is a good copy of Mr. Myiagi from "Karate kid" as Xian Chow and Haskell V. Anderson III is fun as Winston Taylor a retired Vietnam War veteran. Let's not forget about Michel Qissi who is unforgettable as the main villain - Tong Po. Tong Po is mistakenly billed as playing himself (on the film's credits). Qissi can also be seen in two other Van Damme movies "Bloodsport" and "Lionheart". He also appeared in sequel to this movie - "Kickboxer 2".

There are some really cool scenes here - Van Damme training with the dog , the drunk fight in the bar , Van Damme and the palm , final fight with the hands bound with glass. The soundtrack here is unfortunately forgettable and can't compare to the one in "Bloodsport".

I give it 6/10. "Kickboxer" is a cheesy , lighthearted , entertaining little action movie. A small classic. Co-directed by Mark DiSalle and David Worth it's well paced with nice fight scenes. The producers decided to franchise out this series. Other movies are unwatchable. Stick with this fun little time waster.

  • One , two , three , four aaaaaand enough

The first "Wild things" was hardy a classic . Nobody really wanted a sequel, but Hollywood still made 2 crappy straight to DVD movies. The sequels were INCREDIBLY LAZY. They were basically remakes of the first movie only with small changes in script and of course anonymous cast . I guess they did make some money , because Hollywood made one more.

What's the difference between this movie and the earlier ones ? Hint: it's in the title. Yep, guy has a sex with 3 women this time , not with 2. The rest ? EVERYTHING ELSE IS JUST THE SAME. If you find this movie to be clever or surprising , well , then clearly something is wrong with you.

The first movie had Kevin Bacon , Bill Murray , Denise Richards and Neve Campbell. Good actors and hot women. The sex scene was great and there was quite a lot of erotic tension too.

Here the direction is unremarkable , the screenplay is flat and predictable. There is only one sex scene here (the foursome) and although it's nice it can't hold a candle to the original threesome from the first movie. The girls are quite pretty , but when it comes to acting ,wait , what acting ? The only actor from this movie that interested me was a guy named Ashley Parker Angel. This dude should seriously change his name , unless he is interested in making career in porn.

I don't remember too much from this movie. The whole movie is so uninspired and uninteresting that I can recommend it only for sex maniacs (who probably were the main target for this movie anyway). I give it 1/10.
