Even though the script and direction was poor, what was worse was Peter Davidson. He is cringeworthy bad, just extremely off putting. If he was supposed to be funny or serious, he fails at both. He can't act at all, I could see that eddy Murphy struggled with him too, it was plainly obvious. Eddie Murphy was the a comedian/action hero great, and he gets reduced to this terrible film and co star.
The whole Eva Longoria as his wife, I also wasn't buying. Zero chemistry there and no way felt real. It looked liked on their first scene she didn't even like even like him, very unbelievable storyline. The boss was also terrible and type cast. I gave a two only for Eddy Murphy.

I really wanted to enjoy this series. My husband and I are always on the lookout for a good tv show to watch on a weekend, but alas we couldn't even get through one episode of Countdown.
The most annoying character straight out was Amber Oliveras (Jessica Camacho) acting like she is so super tough, she doesn't need another team member to assist her, she can do it all on her own like the female version of Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible. It was actually very cringeworthy to watch her. She has a terrible attitude towards others as well, which just makes it worse. I was actually hoping she would be killed off quickly but guess she is there for the long haul.
Secondly, the rest of the actors besides Jensen Ackles (who can actually act), are just delivering lines, their acting is flat, uninteresting, and just boring. If it was the script or the actor I am not sure.
Jensen Ackles did well with the script he got, and I even like they made him flawed, it made him likeable. The rest of the cast with what they delivered within half an episode of what I watched, I was not caring at all. They gave nothing away on their actual character, (except for Jessica Camacho and Eric Dane). Eric Dane was good, but Jessica, needs a massive character overhaul and show she can actually work well within a team without coming across as all comando and too good for anyone.
I was expecting this to be a CSI, SWAT, etc type of feel but nope, with this team they have all been forced to work together, and would all prefer to be anywhere but here.
At this point, it was time to turn it off, and to tell you it was a disappointing new show.

I only starting watching it now as on the paid tv channels. I never watched it in 1990 but knew there was a lot of hype.
I was absolutely engrossed in the first season, even though very slow. I felt was leading towards something clever. First season great.
Second season, weird and whacky only way to describe it. So many episodes more episodes than the first, that definitely were not needed that they needed more empty dialogue just to fill it.
It actually was ridiculous and not what I was expecting. In the end, I couldn't believe I watched this at all. I want my time back.
Secondly I will say there were moments the production team care more about the artistic cinematography (or whatever you call it) rather than actually making it make sense or reasonable to the viewer ( you may not understand my logic there). Again for me it hits on the bizarre. If you loved it great, in the end for me what an absolute waste.
Ps. My two stars are for season 1 including the deduction for most of season 2.
