What is it with these Martial art action stars, have they taken one too many blows to the head or what? After a couple of good Martial Arts movies, they always seem to start to think they are hired for their superior acting chops, and not their ability to kick ass. So they wanna move on to more serious roles. Listen Jason, your not shake spear material so stick with the regular movies you normally make. This movie is totally incoherent. I dunno if it's meant that way or just cut that way, but it's really bad put together. It starts out with some incoherent war footage from a what I assume is a chopper point of view, than you're find you self back in London in a back alley were a two punks are shaking down bums, for what exactly I couldn't figure out. And one of the bums is Jason's character, whom gets in a fight with one of them. Can't really call it a fight though cause he throws one punch and than (as I all other Hollywood movies) expect the bad guy to just drop. So he end up getting beaten up by the two punks, than he escapes and seek shelter in a luxury penthouse, were the owner just happens to be on a 6months vacation. He gets a shave and a shower and all of a sudden he's a new man. First he wanders around drunk out of he's mind, for as bit. Than all of a sudden he got a job in a Chinese restaurant, but you get no explanation as to how he got it.
The movie is a bit strange and portrays the girl as very naive It starts out with a student fainting in class, turns out she haven't been eating in a while cause of poor economy, from there on the main story starts. After seeking advice from what I believe is the school Counsellor whom basically tell her to sue her parents or get more jobs. Than she somehow get the idea of trying prostitution. (At this point I sort of miss and explanation as to why she choose it so fast) It supposed to be a one time thing, but soon she spends all the money and she need to do it all over again. You get to see how she spends her hard earned money, while she's spending them. Dinner out with her friends paying for their drinks etc All the while you get to see these small cash signs in the air with a price tag of what the item cost her, It was and interesting way to illustrate how money just fly away sometimes. When you've been broke for a log time, you often fantasies about what you gonna spend all the money on when you get on the up and up. But once you get there you soon realize easy come easy go. So soon she needs money again and one client leads to another and another and so on and so forth. One thing that struck me as odd though, was that with every client she usually just lay there like a corpse while they do their thing. I may not know much about prostitution and the life of the average hooker, but I assume when you pay for sex you want some spark in it, however fake that spark must be. I'm pretty sure nobody pays a hundred Euros for a girl to lay there playing dead while you hammering away at her. Not unless you got some weird fantasy about them being dead, I'm pretty sure they would expect her to fake it at least Also the average client was usually men in their 50; it would have been nice with some diversities Another odd thing with the main character is that she seems to get more stupid/naive for each client she takes on. Which is usually quite the opposite of what normally happens in that line of work There are also bits and pieces that doesn't really go anywhere, which is a bit confusing But all in all not a bad movie,
Where do I sign to get the 111min. Of my life back, cause this wasn't worth it
Let me guess the producer watched 1984 and judge dredd+matrix and figured it would be a good idea to mash those into one movie, featuring stone faced Christian bale, and stone faced Sean bean First it start out like a standard futuristic cop movie. Cops raiding a building, but from than on it just goes down hill. The cops hit all their targets while the bad guys miss by the truckloads. Now I'm willing to suspend my sense of realism to a certain degree, but this movie is stretching it way beyond what is forgivable. The cops constantly go on raid after contraband, yet you never get to know how they got the information, which would be interesting considering they always kill everyone they come across. Not to mention that all the places they raid never seem to have a look out, and keep all their contraband merchandise out in the open. The whole gun-kata is just ridicules, and looks even sillier.
Don't waste your time on this one, go watch They Live by john carpenter instead or even 1984.Or perhaps Drive with Marc Dacascos This one obviously spent all their money on ammunition, cause the story line is paper thin, and the acting is wooden. And that's just he good parts
