This is a surprisingly enjoyable movie with a dark comedic edge. Thought the opening gives a hint of what's to come, it starts in somewhat plodding fashion with a lakeside getaway. However, once it gets going, the twisted (and bloody) roller coaster ride is on full force. Not for everyone, but if you've enjoyed Black Mirror episodes, you'll probably like it.
I somehow never heard of this series when it came out and only noticed it on a long flight. I eventually watched the whole series and came away impressed. I went on to read Donald Miller's eponymous book and Harry Crosby's Wing and a Prayer, the primary source materials.
Having brushed up on the background, it's safe to say that the series plays with some of the sequencing and conflates some events for dramatic purposes. The characters other than the main ones can be tough to follow in the early episodes and Austin Butler tends to mumble his lines and can be hard to understand.
All of that aside, this series is a great watch, a notch below Band of Brothers but still very good with excellent effects. If you haven't discovered it yet, give it a watch.
