This movie wouldn't be made these days. Under the preassure of unnamed dictatorship which praising the Ottoman Empire without considering the truth; it is impossible to potray any Ottoman emperor like that. It is a very brave production and the fact that it cannot be made today is proof of how we are going through a dark period. However, as a movie, it's very dull. The acting is mediocre. Extras are painfully bad. Especially Okan Bayülgen acted so badly. Dialogues have been overly didactic and unrealistic. In places, there are sentences that really taste like a middle school show. There are textbook phrases such as "You were not only the first person to fly. You were also the first to fly from continent to continent.". For me it was hard to watch it at once.
Only thing saves the production is the performance of Haluk Bilginer as the lead role. Beside him; plot is predictable, main characters are cartoonish and cheesy (police chief is a joke for example). Entire serie is a wannabe US crime-drama. The main subject is a reality in Turkey thats for sure but it looks like they made an mediocre US crime serie (with all aspects like characters and dialogues) sets in Turkish background. Also for the first time i witness that some extras had better performance than the actual actors.
The movie is a big joke itself. Didn't go to see it with extraordinary expectations yet it wasn't capable to fulfill anything at all. Awkward conversations were supposed to be funny unfortunately they were not even close to trigger a giggle. Ali Atay tries to make absurd comedy movies but he can only catch the absurd side of it. Big local stars are wasted in this garbage, especially Ugur Yücel couldn't get any chance to show his acting skills. Waste of money and time. Plot would be interesting if it was processed better with creative dialogues.
