As far as I'm concerned there really is no storyline in this so I'm going to concentrate on the actors I had been wondering for a long time what happened to Tom Hardy he was so fabulous in Peaky Blinders in the movies he made in that same timeframe and his characters were vivid and he was quite Handsome charming whatever he needed to be Tim olyphant has been a favorite of mine for a while but of course justified and deadwood put him over the top for me and Forrest Whitaker is a fabulous character actor they have given him parts that I don't think anybody else could've played them nearly as well So here we have all this talent that participates in the nonfunctioning script and the whole thing basically just lingers there's nothing that really holds any of these characters or the plot together and capable of pulling an audience "in".
I watched companion on Max and their next suggestion for something sci-fi or in that realm was to watch this movie I didn't look at any trailers or any of the reviews I just started to watch the movie and after about the first five minutes I realized that this was not a movie per se it was more of a propaganda film that was disconcerting to me I mean from any movie at any time if you want to you can take some sort of social or political stance but when it's pushed at you this way without any warning I find it extremely disturbing especially in today's times whereas the movie does say social media influences so much It's not entertaining and you can get the same propaganda from newsfeeds and social media all day long. It's a shame because I'm very fond of Samantha Morton as an actress.
In today's terms this movie is very basic first of all it's in black-and-white also there's no action no carved out scenes no magnificent displays at times almost just a drudging continuous story of a very scary man going after prey in my mind this is the best role that Rutger Hauer ever played and he is superb at it. Yet he goes about it extremely methodically I think that is what perhaps confuses the audience in that we can't figure out how and why but maybe that's the genius of it. We get slight hints along the way in that primarily he doesn't do any major damage to his primary prey the young man and also that one scene towards the end where he actually caresses the young man's hand there is a dynamism between the two but it's never really defined and that's not necessarily a bad thing.
