Having served in the Marines from 72 to 78 and having did my training on Paris Island, this movie has one of the most authentic Marine Corps boot camp re-enactments that I have ever seen. The main two flaws I noticed was referring to the beds as bunks instead of racks. Emery served in the Marine Corps and I was surprised they let this happen . Also it was very unrealistic that Pyle was able to sneak live rounds from the rifle range. All rounds were strictly accounted for. I should also mention that the physical abuse portrayed by the drill instructors is very accurate. I was slapped, kicked and punched a few times. Nothing serious though and I more than likely deserved it. I even saw one recruit, inside the squad bay, get knocked over from a horizontal butt stroke to his shoulder by the drill instructor using the recruits M14 rifle. Also we had one recruit go behind his rack and slit his wrist. I guess he couldn't take it anymore. He was taken away and I never knew what became of him.
Although I never served in Vietnam, the re-enactment seemed pretty realistic. If I had the nitpick it was the hair length shown on some of the Marines. Way out of regulation! Also the scene showing the dead North Vietnamese soldier on display would never happen as it did. Maybe out in the bush.
Overall this is a great Marine Corps Vietnam era movie. I probably Watched it at least 5 times and it never disappoints me.

The title looked interesting so I began watching it and was soon drawn into it. I had to keep watching, although it struggled along and it was like watching Latex paint dry. Very Poor acting and ridiculous scenarios that just did not make sense.. Obviously a low budget movie with a minimal amount of characters. I wanted to just quit watching it, but I had too much time invested so I stuck it out to the end which turned out to be confusing. An hour and a half of my life that I will never get back. I should have came To Internet movie database and read the reviews and just found something else to watch. I'm sure some of you might find this entertaining but to me it was a waste of my time.
