  • Excellent Film!

I feel very strongly that this film was just like Waiting to Exhale with white females in the 1950's. As in Waiting to Exhale, all of the female characters got mixed up with men who were either married or no good. The only difference, besides the obvious, was that there wasn't much humor in this film. I would even say that it was tragic. Only one of the male characters seemed to be kind and sincere (Hope Lange's guy), but even then there was conflict in this relationship.

The story was about three young women who shared an apartment together and who had hopes and dreams of success. Unfortunately for them, romance didn't seem to come easy although they were young, intelligent and attractive. This movie could be called a tearjerker with the saddest part involving Suzy Parker's character whose obsession of an ex-boyfriend leads to tragedy.

    This is a must see.

  • One of the Best Films Ever Made

I loved this movie. Joan Crawford gave the best performance in her life as a mother who does all she can to provide for her children after her husband leaves. Unfortunately she has a very selfish spoiled daughter who does not appreciate anything her mother does for her and the daughter that adores her dies of pnuemonia.

It is said that Veda's rotten personality was shaped by her mother's constant doting, but I beg to differ. I think that Veda was rotten from birth and probably in need of psychiatric help as well. What other reason would she choose to sing in a seedy bar instead of appreciating the fine life her mother gave her and all because her mother wasn't born into money like Monty Baragon. Mildred Pearce worked very hard to be wealthy and any daughter should be proud of her mother. But not Veda. Being a descendant of royalty was what Veda really wanted.

But all of that aside, Mildred Pearce was an excellent movie. The performances of Jack Carson, Ann Blythe, Eve Arden and Zachary Scott were excellent. The actor who played Bert did pretty well but I think he could have taken more acting lessons. But the performances of the other cast members were so good that he didn't hurt the picture of all. In fact, I loved his character.

This film is a must see for all lovers of movie classics. You must get this for your collection!
