  • Great Lord of the Rings action, but animated

    Giving this an 8/10 rating

Watched this in IMAX and this is really how you should watch it, from start to finish, it was brilliant! Not for a moment is it boring, the pace is perfect and the action is great. Really glad it is animated, thus giving the material new life from the six movies before. But you still get the feel of them films before and I am glad for it.

The no messing about story takes you into a war that should never happened by the most cruelest reasons, and a utterly pitiful villain, motives are just plain mad, power mad at that. Kenji Kamiyama leads the direction of the film in all the right places, with fine performances from Brian Cox, Gaia Wise, Luca Pasqualino and Miranda Otto comes back too. Just all the characters are well played and have so much to give, thanks also for the great animation. See this in IMAX if you can, as it really does fill the screen and not a scene is wasted. Going to see this again, just no missing this!

  • Saved by the great cast, very out there film

    Giving this an 6/10 rating

So bizarre is this film, six of us were in the screen when I watched it, and three walked out about 40 minutes into it, and too be fair, I can understand, this film is horror, comedy, satire and political drama, you get all of that, thanks to Evan Johnson, Galen Johnson and Guy Maddin. All three writing and directing this madness.

This is Guy Maddin, all over, so I expected it weird and arthouse, not making any real sense neither, well ,some kid of plot, which is there, thanks to the acting of Cate Blanchett, Charles Dance, and others with Alicia Vikander doing a some very odd work here. The cast had some real work to do in this, and with the most strangest dialogue and situations this year, it was not a total loss, not one to walk out on, if you knew what to expect, as I did.

Not in the worst film this year, that goes too 'The Crow', not sure if this is one that really will pull in much crowds, which is why it has such a limited showing. Had to travel a bit for this one and find good time as well, was not doing the 9pm slots that most cinemas are showing it.

  • Amy Adams goes Woof Woof, in this good fantasy film.

    Giving this an 7.5/10 rating

This is a fantasy supernatural film, and it's good. It starts off as a drama about a new mother and her son, but is much, much, more, thanks to Director Marielle Heller, and Heller again, with Rachel Yoder, both on writing duty. Amy Adams is the mother who really must put up with a quite a bit of baby mischief and Scoot McNairy, who was playing a father in 'Speak No Evil' a few months ago, is in his element here.

There are lots and lots of dogs, and Amy acting like a dog, it's all very strange and funny, plus it's compelling because of it's premise. And it's based on a book, so go have a read of that, I just wonder how out there that book is, never the less, it's very good, different cinema, with great photography and narrative.

Amy Adams is the draw and the along with the baby boy, both eat the screen up. A very enjoyable and strange film that plays with time and space, well.
