  • Very relatable to girl gamers. Loved it!

I decided to watch this movie regardless of the reviews because I enjoyed the trailer. I'm so glad I did!! It's HILARIOUS. My fellow girl gamers, you'll very much relate to the script.

If you enjoy movies like Pitch Perfect, Bring It On, and Dodgeball, WATCH THIS MOVIE. The jokes are similar to what you would see in something like SuperBad except women are the ones delivering the punchlines.

Yes the plot is predictable and there isn't anything revolutionary in movie making history, but that isn't the point of the film. And any criticism on "missed opportunities" are irrelevant. This is just a fun movie that revolves around girl gamers and how they overcome misogyny that is still prevalent in gaming.

Oh and the chicken scene. I haven't laughed this much in a long time. We ended up rewinding that entire scene because, well, it was comedy brilliance.

  • A modern reimagining of a classic children's tale.

As an avid watcher of horror movies, one of my favorite aspects of the genre is that it captures many different ideas of what we consider horrifying.

This film may not scare you like The Exorcist but there are plenty of unsettling & uncomfortable themes.

    What to expect?

The film is a modernized reimagining of the well known classic. For me, it added depth and complexity by using the original story as a framework to build the plot.

As others mentioned, the acting and cinematography are superb. It is also more akin to "The Witch".

It's not a fast-paced film but I believe that was done so that we (the audience) could build upon each story piece we are given. I did not watch the movie passively and made sure to pay attention to the details. So I never felt lost or confused while watching the film.

What I appreciate the most, is that we are given enough information to leave with our own interpretation of what happens.

If you enjoy films that provoke conversation and thought, definitely give it a go.

I gave this a 10/10 and would expect at least a 7/10 from most horror movie fans.

  • A fun film for fans of the genre... if you can get past the music

I feel there are a few elements that will make or break a film. One of them is music, which this movie completely failed at. Being engrossed when watching a film is very important to me but the music choices often took me "out of the zone" because it was just... so CHEESY.

That being said, it was a fun film with good acting and decent writing. Exactly what you would expect from the genre with a different twist and perspective, which I often appreciate.

Note on the negative reviews for Matt Smith's accent. It sounds odd because, I think (and this is a strong belief only), he is affecting a very specific accent from a US region referenced in the beginning.

Aside from the negative reiews, I took a chance on the film due to the actors and have no regrets.
