After so many bitter disappointment from Hollywood, recently I become pretty familiar with (South) Korean filmography. What a refreshment! Among these, Chan-wook Park is my absolute favorite. After seeing Oldboy (excellent), and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (even better), Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance was definitive cherry on the cream. The story, the characters, the plot, camera-work and all technical details, in one word everything, in this movie is perfect. Appealing. An art! A must see for all true film lovers. Now I only hope Hollywood will disregard Mr. Park, otherwise film world will loose yet another fine artist. And yes, pity that 10 is the highest mark. I would say 11.5/10
One beautiful film, something quite opposite to current Hollywood confection. In many moments it reminded me of yet another European masterpiece, Fellini's Amarcord, only this one showing a much more positive historical period, the sixties. The story is intriguing and logical, with many fine details. I must say that I knew almost nothing about Greek cinematography, therefore I was very much pleased with what I saw in this movie. The acting is brilliant (as it is in most European movies), so is the camera-work and other technical aspects. My recommendation to all true film lovers: a must see. Therefore, I give 10/10
