As someone who watched the superb cartoon version on BBC1 at Christmas 2009 with my spellbound infant daughter, I have to say that I hated this live action production on first viewing. Now, after many more viewings, I will admit to being wrong. The performances are fantastic, the sheer energy of the actors (some of whom never seem to leave the stage) is breathtaking and the songs are hilarious. The performance on the DVD was recorded before a live audience which was packed with young children. They join in with gusto with the songs and some of their reactions, upon first seeing the Gruffalo appear on stage, are worth the price of the DVD. I would thoroughly recommend this DVD to anyone, whether or not they have young children, as I love it. Oh, my daughter loves it too.
