This is like a very indie version of "Fatal Attraction," in that it shows the consequences of infidelity. Bravo to the filmmakers who were working with very limited resources for their ability to create an effective cautionary tale, one with several surprises along the way. If you're thinking of cheating on your spouse, watch this film. It will set you straight!
There's always someone who assumes that just because you love a movie, and they don't, you're clearly wrong and they're right. This movie has a lot of high scores because a lot of people loved it, as I did. Our opinions are no less valid than those who couldn't appreciate what these filmmakers did so well. Hey, it's all just people giving their opinions, but don't discount the many great reviews because someone thought it was fair. If you're in the right "demo", you're going to love this movie. It's not a "big" movie, or a "fancy" movie, but it's very well-observed, incredibly well-acted, and well-written. This film's story feels lived in. The writer clearly went through this kind of thing in her life, and if you're of a certain age, and you've been through this type of thing, you're going to really relate to this movie, and dare I say, love it too. These stories, for this audience, aren't told very often--certainly not by Hollywood--and when they are, they're not told very well; certainly not as truthfully as you'll find here. My advice: if this story sounds even remotely interesting to you, then watch it. You'll be very glad you did!
This is one of the few Argentinian films I've ever seen, so I can't compare it to what else they're doing over there, but in every way, it's an excellent independent thriller. I say "independent" because this film isn't just interested in delivering the genre goods (which it does well, BTW). It's a film that has something to say, a film that makes you think. I won't go into what I think the filmmakers or saying, or try to explain what I felt--I don't want to give anything away. But I will say that what sets it apart from a run-of-the-mill thriller is the character ambiguity. Everyone in this film is flawed to some degree, and so the characters are much richer and authentic as a result. Some people like their thrillers straight up, black & white, and so for them, this might not work as well. But if you like smart movies, shot with style, well-crafted, extremely well acted, AND delivering genre thrills, this is the movie for you!
