This movie was recently released on DVD. I don't quite understand the low rating this film has here, but I assure you, it is truly a gem of a film. I went in not expecting much as I had been disappointed previously by films from The Asylum, but I was pleasantly surprised with this one. I put it in the player & soon found myself riveted to the screen. The film unfolds slowly but in such a way that the viewer is entranced, hanging on to see what happens next... exactly how things will unfold. The character Sarah is a royal you-know-what like no other anyone has ever seen on screen. Her performance alone keeps one glued to the screen. The interaction between the other characters is suspenseful as well, and the entire cast plays beautifully & eerily off of each other. Do yourself a favor and check this one out!
Cheesy? Yes. A really bad horror movie? Yes... but not totally without any redeeming qualities. Long-time, die-hard fans of Tom Savini like myself might agree that his appearance in this movie is the only thing that makes it watchable. Without his inclusion, I wouldn't have made it past the first 15 minutes. Without his inclusion, I couldn't have overlooked the bad acting, bad dubbing, bad script writing, and bad everything else without developing a really irritating headache. Having said that, his inclusion makes this movie at least a mildly amusing, cheesy, really so-bad-it's-almost-good-although-I-don't-know-if-I'd-go-THAT-far, mildly entertaining B-movie rental. It's not the worst movie EVER made. I'd save that honor for something more like Darkness Falls or House of the Dead.
Overall I liked this flick. I had seen it prior to reading any reviews anywhere (in print or the net, etc etc) about it. While I found it disturbing, I think it did justice to showing us, as outsiders, a glimpse of the chaos that goes on in the mind of a serial killer. There were several scenes that could be labeled "stupid" or "pointless." There are scenes that leave you scratching your head and going, "Now just why in the he** did he do that?!" There are scenes that made me recoil. I was repulsed, but I think it's what made the flick so good. Yes, you do see lots of blood here and there, but it's more of what the director "doesn't" show you that gets your imagination going. And to know that this was all basically true... that all these things that happened in this movie were based on the actions of a real man... it just makes it that much more fascinating. I rented this flick from the video store and brought it home to watch it. I sat glued to my television, and it must have taken me a good 10-15 minutes after the movie was over to shake off the "dark cloud" kind of feeling that it left me with. Maybe it's because I can remember growing up during the time that all this went on in real life, but one thing is for sure... this is a good movie! I think the guy that played Ted Bundy did a great job, too.
