Anyone who has had dog or cat pets will love this movie.
The actors capture the quirks perfectly. Ajax licking his paw and cleaning his hair, is Robin William's funny.
Jean Harlow is fantastic, beautiful and unique; she's so wonderful to watch. And that voice. Loretta Young looks like an angel, she's always the same, but when you're a star like Loretta Young, the same is never tiresome. Robert Williams is shockingly natural, totally modern, despite his tired old lines about dames and birds in gilded cages. He's a lot of Spencer Tracy but better looking, with a more natural quality. not studied. He's looking at the women, not playing to the camera. And then there's Frank Capra. The camera work, long shots moving through the mansion, and the love scene shot through the fountain elevate a 1931 comedy to a whole different level. When Harlow and Williams sing about the garters, you might think they're just improvising on the spot. He is truly a great director.
All these beautiful people, frozen in time. Don't you love the movies?
