To begin with, they plagiarized the character from Hacks almost completely. A New Yorker article states:
"Jess could be a cousin of Kayla Schaefer, Stalter's breakout character on the HBO Max series 'Hacks,' with whom she shares a tendency toward hyperbolic declarations and off-kilter humor."
Nope, she is the same woman, if this were a spin-off of "Hacks," it would have more credibility. She was hysterical in that series, but too annoying to have a lead role. She had a minor comedy role in Hacks, and they were insightful enough not to overdo it with this over-the-top character. Also, "Hacks' had some comedy writers on staff.
"Too Much" left those behind, the humorists. Sorry, a little dog is not comedy, unless a piano falls on it like in a Monty Python skit. The same article calls the humor "off-kilter." Not sure what that means unless it means unable to detect, or awkward and stupid.
As far as romance, the two meet in a filthy pub toilet without running water. Doesn't get any more romantic than that, right?

As visually stunning as this movie was from start to finish, actually miraculously so, I could have done with fewer chase scenes and explosions and a bit more story and character development. I also found it difficult to keep score during a lot of the very drawn-out action sequences. The vehicles all looked too similar to tell which team was which most of the time.
Visually, this was ten times more nightmarish than the Road Warrior, but that film eclipses this effort by having more of a coherent story, not that it was loaded with character development. I just could have done with a bit more story in this version. It took me a few times before I could finally get through Fury Road.
