I don't even want to bother going into the premise of this overated, formulaic, done about a thousand times story line. You've seen one, you've seen 'em all, there is no point. Why could this not be different???? No strings attached with Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher was way better and it featured exactly the same premise. And every female then found their "period" song after that one. But this one ... Netflix should have just trashed it the moment they received it.
Ashton Kutcher has aged, no doubt about that. But he's still adorable and I still enjoy watching him on TV. AND he actually can act and has matured over the years on the screen. But whomever decided to cast deadpan-no emotion-legally-blonde in this role, made a huge mistake. And that is where this film failed. Have I just never really watched Reese Witherspoon as an actress before? She's awful! Her expressions were put on, and I mean, yes it's "acting", but everything about her movement in this whole flick seemed over done. She is quite a bad actress!
And yes, user rutujaingupta - people can have chemistry without being in the same room. But these two had ZERO. I also fell asleep halfway through these movie. One saving grace: Jesse Williams - the should have been McDreamy / McSteamy!

I may have found my new favourite comedy of 2023. I say "may", because it's obviously early days and there are more comedies premiering that I have high hopes for.
Forget your stereotypical comedies with a main protagonist and their best friends with their perfect lives and their perfect stories. Shrinking has a unique blend of drama and laughter wrapped up in a very neat bow and delivers entertainment flawlessly. After watching the first episode, it reminded me a little of Ricky Gervais' After Life, but it is less depressing and not as sharp witted, I'll admit but still manages to make it better than After Life. And let's be honest, who doesn't want to see Harison Ford back in action even if it's not a big budget Hollywood blockbuster.
Along with other fantastic characters, Shrinking is a true gem. The premise sounds "washed, rinsed, repeat" and formulaic, but trust me it is not. Jason Segal heads a delicious star studded cast series, where he plays a not so recently widowed middle age man, with a teenage daughter he doesn't know how to connect with. Surrounding him are well created roles fit the casts that play them.
Every morning there's a halo hanging from the corner of my girlfriend's four-post bed, I know it's not mine but I'll see if I can use it - for the weekend or a one-night stand! Just watch it.

I watched Roseanne as a child with my family. We weren't particularly big fans, but it served its purpose, which was to offer short term entertainment, enjoyable enough to garner a few chuckles. When it was announced that they were reviving the series, I was slightly intrigued to see what direction the creators would take it, given that the final episode of the original series was a true hot mess (in my opinion at least).
The first 10 episodes of the revivial series was POOR to say the least. Watching Roseanne now in my late 30s, made me wonder why I enjoyed it before. With the way the world has changed, my taste in comedy has also changed. Roseanne is probably what brought this show down and with her gone, The Conners can really take off. Let's admit it, she was loud, crass and annoying. And her laugh was just a small part of the issue, Fran Drescher and FRIENDS' Janice laughs are iconic, Roseanne's was just noise polution.
I've almost completed season 2 of The Conners, and am hooked. I can definitely see why some people don't like it, and the jokes can be a bit backdated and offensive, but like before, it serves a purpose which is to provide entertainment. In fact, I find the new Conners is funnier, more original and has characters that we can really relate to. Their one liners are just down right hilarious. And the whole family has real life struggles that many people in life really face, hence the relatability factor. Every character has been developed well and they all serve their unique presense and purpose to the show. Some sitcomes throw in certain characters just to fit with times, or become so hooked up on what critics are going to say, so they throw in diversity for the sake of it, rather than having it find a natural flow within the story line. The Conners do it well, they don't not talk about "the elephant in the room", they address it classily and it's not meant to be there for the sake of tokenism. The new addition of Jay R Furguson, is great. What a great character to add to the clan.
If you don't take the show seriously and don't seek it out to solve all your daily struggles, because that's now what television is there for, and sit back, clear your mind and just enjoy this series for ... FUN, you'll see how good it actually is and begin to appreciate it for its entertainment value. I am one to always find all the bad points of a comedy series, and there are very few I ever give a rating over 5, but this one deserves better.
