Well, I must admit there may be some bias in my review because my cousin is one of the leading actors. But because of that I was even more prone to watch for mistakes or imperfections in the acting than I normally do when watching a movie. The first thing that must be said about this film is that the cinematography is excellent!! The attention to detail and framing that was put into every shot is manifest. Even just the opening sequence with the leaves floating in the pool was shot with a talent that is evident throughout the movie. The soundtrack is fine and subtle, blending well with the scenes and setting the appropriate mood. The acting was top rate - across the board - from the primary actors to the supporting cast down to the extras. Way to go cousin you did fantastic. The director definitely knew his story well and seamlessly planned out the path on which he would develop it. The situations and circumstances portrayed are perfectly believable. You truly find yourself engaged in the lives of these people. As the madness, guilt and predicaments gather up you can't help but feel pity for each character's weakness and just hope that in them lies some dormant strength they can muster to correct and recover their lives. This is a good drama film. And if you are in the mood for the steamy quandaries that people can get themselves into you will enjoy watching this movie. By the way, my cousin is Manolo Cardona; just in case you were curious.
I was Assistant Director on Don Boner's movie "Somewhere in Indiana" and given that I am right now trying to make my first full-length feature movie I have nothing but admiration for Don's doggedness in completing this project. I remember when he first came up with the concept for the story in Dec/03 and was out with Jason Kistler in my driveway Jan/04 trying to shovel the little bit of snow we had in order to get reel for the opening scenes. He persistently pushed the project forward for the next 10 months through all the trials and tribulations of small budget, independent film-making. If you are an aspiring producer, director, writer or actor this film should be watched with the keen eye of someone that understands how difficult the process can be and maybe you will pick up some "movie trickery" and inspiration or at the very least respect and admiration for a man diligently pursuing his dream.
Watching Kevin Costner swing around the bars in the jail like an untrained monkey or his cheesy two hand shooting of the bad guys outside the saloon makes you sick. Amazing that Kevin could learn and grow from this terribly trite and predictable movie. It was your typical, unbelievable good guys versus bad guys film set to a Western theme. There are just enough auxiliary "good people" to get killed by the bad guys and then look out, the good guys are coming to wipe out all the bad guys and not even have their hair come out of place. It is so cliché and pathetic how each good guy killed his appropriate bad guy. Okay, if you have nothing to do some evening watch this movie, listen to the soundtrack (which is actually pretty good, best thing about the movie) and eat some corn. But if you have anything else to do then I suggest you skip this movie and go do it. Maybe a 4.5 out of 10 is the rating for this movie.
