I was curious about this movie, wondering how Anderson's acting was. She was an interesting choice to cast, here. I understand the director wasn't too familiar with her.
After finishing the movie, I thought that Anderson did a good job, but somehow, though the acting was good, the cinematography was good, the actors were interesting, it still felt somewhat lacking. Almost just a routine dramatic potboiler. I think the setting is what makes this interesting, but in the end, it just doesn't click all the way, or amount to much. Why can I finish this movie, but not "Anora"? Hard to say.
Anyways, if you like Anderson, you might like seeing her acting skills, but I don't see this as a must see movie. It's not bad, but it's not great, either. 5/10.

I feel sharply divided about this show. It's hard to pinpoint, but it's early on that I'm writing this review. It seems to need to find it's footing. There are some very funny bits in this, but them the pendulum swings back, and it just makes you cringe. It's less banal and boring than "The Neighborhood", but not quite as witty and amusing as "Ghosts". So many different personalities make it hard for the comedy to stay steady. The main woman, an Australian playing American, is maybe the most annoying character, along with the boss character. Tim Meadows is always enjoyable, though. For a show that was so heavily promoted the Summer before it premiered, it's not terrible, but can be annoying. If you don't like quirky characters or situations, this is likely not for you. This'll likely be picked up for additional seasons, though. An acquired taste.
So, even back in the '80s, movies got re-edited, and messed around with. Apparently this was filmed as a comedy, and then whomever decided it should be more scary. Well, it's not. The main couple are boring, only Lee brings some levity to the project. I'll give this movie props, it's a fun watch if expectations are bottom of the barrel. I mean, this is more entertaining than most westerns, or old black and white movies. I have a hard time finishing movies these days, but I did finish this one. Lee and Danning are the only characters you'll likely find interesting. If you've got little choice, or want to watch an '80s movie that's more amusing than scary, you could do worse.
