  • Does its job

Before watching this doco, I did not know who or what made up the voting for the Golden Globes. I just assumed it was a bunch of movie people who knew what the hell they were talking about. After watching this clearly that perception was wrong, or at least disjointed.

Vikram Jayanti's doco is a fascinating look into the truth about the Golden Globes and what they are really about. The awards seem so revered today yet many do not question why, they just go with the flow like I did. The interviews with producers and journalists do provide some interesting insights, and stories (like Pia Zadora's win for 'Butterfly') are humorous. It might not be as interesting to those who already know the secret but for newcomers its a fascinating look into the Hollywood hype machine.

In the whole scheme of things does Hollywood's dirty secret really matter? Nope. Not really. There are far more important issues to worry about in the world than some over-hyped awards show. Sure, seeing a film ad in the paper stating that so-and-so movie won 3 Golden Globes might annoy slightly but at least after viewing this doco you are a little more educated on the matter.

Besides, next time you are caught watching the fiasco on TV, you can just point and laugh at the A-Grade celebrities who accept their shiny little toy with glee and declare how much the useless golden orb on a stick means to them. Its moments like that which show if an actor really has talent!

  • Hilarious!

Owww, man. This movie is funny. The villain Dante is probably one of the funniest villains I've ever seen in film. He can beat up anyone, he doesn't move his mouth when he speaks, makes feeble attempts to show emotion, has cheesy and hilarious lines. What more could you ask for? Probably a better movie, but we're looking at this one, right? Don "The Dragon" Wilson can take down almost anyone in this film, showing his energetic martial art skills but when it comes to the sex scene he provides the biggest laugh of them all. After taking down all sorts of evil punks, he sleeps with a beautiful woman he barely knows for 10 minutes, but lays there completely lifeless as she does all the work! Come on, Dragon, show a little energy next time! For a serious sci-fi movie, look elsewhere. For some laughs, you could do worse.

  • Watchable but still way below par

As someone else has stated, this is a low budget cross between Terminator and Die Hard only without the massive appeal of either.

Its hard to believe the motive for hijacking a hospital in order to kidnap the president's daughter. Especially in one part where there is an opportunity to kidnap the president himself, the terrorists prefer to continue using the daughter instead.... yeah, she'll be worth more...

Martin Kove is cheesy but okay. Meg Foster's part seems like it was originally written with a teenage girl in mind. Frank Zagarino is amusing as the robot. And the rest of the cast go through the motions.

Another thing, this movie probably has the worst example of movie editing I've ever seen. In one scene, the cyborg seemingly has the two main characters trapped in the overhead vents, the next, the two leads are running away, without any explanation on how they escaped! There's other confusing scenes but if you watch the movie you'll see for yourself.

One of Kove's last lines in the picture reminds me of Eddie Murphy's character in Bowfinger when he yells out 'Got you, suckers!' I got a laugh out of that.

It kills some time but don't expect to get anything out of it.
