This was the one film I wanted to see the most at SXSW and I was lucky enough to see the world premier and left more than pleased. Jon Bernthal really explodes on screen and you can feel the joy he gets from pushing his brothers buttons in the most entertaining way possible. These two have real, believable chemistry and brought something both familiar and unexpected while delivering a story that isn't the same ole buddy trope the way other films seem to struggle. Jon's comic relief blends perfectly with Ben's robotic, emotionlessness. It feels like anything can and will happen at any moment...and it does! I hope we see these two characters together again sooner than later!
I saw this at the SXSW premier and it was the best film of the whole festival. I saw 12 film premiers and this was the only standing ovation I witnessed and it was well deserved. The story and characters were dynamic and music was interwoven into both making it feel more like Oh Brother than a musical. This is the best film Matthew has been a part of since Mud and I think it will get both he and Angelina LookingGlass supporting actor nods, the screenplay will get a best original nod and the score will get a nod...and win a few of these! It's been a long time since this many unique characters have arrived on screen at the same time and I'm here for it!
I liked this movie from a movie standpoint but when you consider the book it's from you have to feel a bit let down. I understand that some things have to be left out when you consider the movie is already 2 1/2 hours long and to include everything from the book would make it 2x longer but knowing the series is going to continue means you can't leave out pertinent information. I certainly hope that some of the things left out of GoF are not just dropped from OotP because that would be terrible considering some things continue into HBP and possible the last book. I also have to say that adding things that were not in the book is a waste of time they could have used to put in some of the REAL story. I hope OotP is even better. I didn't mind the way PoA was a little different from the book because it kept all the important stuff and was so close to be accurate that it's hard to notice. The first two were so much like the book that most readers would be able to skip the first 2 books and go strait to PoA without losing anything. Maybe JK wanted the movies and books to differ so everyone would say "See the movie for the action and read the book for the story..." That way she wins twice.
