I work with children with autism. Some are significantly impaired. I often tell myself it's so hard for these parents to have to watch their child all day... keep them safe and in the meantime often have no lives themselves. This movie shares a little if what it maybe line behind the scenes. The stress on marriages is real. There is a high incidence of divorce in families where kids have disabilities. The level of help outside school is limited. The incidence and diagnosis of children with autism continues to rise. I am not sure if the child actor in this movie has autism or not but if he does not, he should have won an award. My only criticism is the music score at time so depressing, it almost made me want to stop watching.
I just had to force myself not to watch the last episode until tomorrow. I want it to last another day. This is a smart, funny, painfully truthful show with four fiercely strong women actors. I've spent my whole trying to be Eve (badly),avoid being. Robyn (successfully) and have just ended up being Melody (what's not to love?) Caroline is just to cool to even contemplate duplicating. There is only one Caroline! This show is just as slick as Caroline and the writing is deliciously fabulous. Only complaint? I need Season three NOW!
Everything I would say about this movie had been said in the other reviews. Sad this hasn't gotten greater visibility as it's a really good film. I think one of Hawke's best performances.
Without comparing to the original, I watched this on lockdown with my 18 year old who decreed it, "my new favorite movie." Neither deep or a masterpiece, it was fun. An escape from Covid for a few hours with so many 80s references, bright colors and song covers. Exactly what we needed to watch the day after the worst Christmas ever. I just want to know where that great Bowie shirt was from.
