Death in paradise first series with Ben Miller, remain my favourite of this "Paradise" franchise. But also Beyond paradise is good entertainment and has funny characters. Anne, Martha's mother, with her dating life and coping mechanisms, and DS Williams, which is more than a sidekick, are my favourite, but also the older hippy secretary in the police station and the young constable worried about being made redundant are quite funny. The location is not the Caribbean, but, amusingly, whenever there is a nice English coastal town it's always Cornwall. So there is a bit of Doc Martin in it too. Worth a watch.
I really like her and the relation she has with the FBI guy who follows her and the chief of the police. The parade of characters working in the white house, and the recurring gags with the Australians are also amusing. And by the end you feel angry the victim actually died. Did it drag too long? I don't know. By the 4th episode I also thought how can they cover other 4 episodes? I stuck with it to see where it was going and it was rewarding. Eventually I found it so relaxing that after watching it the next day I put it in the background while doing other stuff. I hope Cordelia will find another mistery to follow and that the FBI agent and the chief of police will be in it too.
Not sure who can compare this to How To Train your dragon and say it is the same story. Is it because of the message "don't kill the monsters". If it is because of that then we shouldn't really watch anything anymore. Love stories? Check. Epitome of boredom. Former soldier/spy/cia/... whose family members get killed/kidnappped and goes on a solitary rampage? Check can't stand to see another one. RomComs? Check all the same comedy of errors and misunderstandings since Shakespeare. Criminal being chased by some obsessed cop (possibly alcoholic or otherwise broken)? Check how many have we seen? Jona and the Whale? Check, since the bible times....
This is a good fun movie and the characters are interesting. Visuals are gorgeous.
