Ever since Parks and Recreation ended, I've been craving a worthy successor. Abbott Elementary is that successor.
It ticks all the boxes:
Relatable, likeable characters Brilliant sense of humour and self deprecation Shaky camera work Touches on real world issues
I'm only halfway through season one, but managed to get into it immediately. Was immensely delighted when I looked it up on IMDB to discover a further 3 more season.
The lead character Janine Teagues is an uncanny substitute for Leslie Knope, with strong passionate convictions, wanting the best for her pupils. While Jacob Hill, reminiscent of Tom Haverford, the lovable clown who wants to be seen as cool and down with the kids!
But aside from those similarities, Abbott Elementary with its obvious flaws and quirks clearly distinguishes itself as a great comedy in its own right.

Flashback episodes are a complete cop out. I automatically skip them when watching Friends, Fresh Prince etc...
You were probably more likely to get away with them back in the 80's and early 90's, as not everyone had a VCR and Netflix didn't exist. But in this day and age, if you're overwhelmed with feelings of nostalgia, you can simply rewatch your favourite episodes or go onto YouTube if it's clips you're after.
Either way, this episode was completely pointless. Only 20 mins of the episode was original footage, and even then, it was pretty bland for TNG standards. Which is a real shame, as I feel episodes that focus on Riker tend to form some of the best episodes in the saga: A matter of honour, Best of both worlds, Second Chances, Frame of mind etc...
You can only conclude that it was a badly conceived filler episode, serving no purpose except to drum up advertising revenue for the television channels.
I can't imagine Frakes was particularly pleased with the episode either!

Really good episode, all characters are exceptionally humanised, setting things up nicely for the rest of the season.
It doesn't have to be violence, land-grab and general backstabbing all the time (not that there wasn't any of that in the episode).
Not a lot happens in terms of plot development, but many could argue that previous episodes were so heavily focussed on the narrative that they forgot about the characters.
If that is your belief, then this episode remedies those concerns.
For a filler episode this one was particularly rich and thoughtful. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Probably one of the most enjoyable and lighthearted Yellowstone episodes, I have watched so far.
Also, Jimmy is the absolute best character!
