If episode 2-4 were the same quality of the first episode I'd be willing to rate this an 8 or 9 but the quality fell off a cliff after the first episode. And the pacing ruins any tension the show is trying to build. So it just goes from wacky thing to wacky thing.
This should have been a non-traditional run length with stories that needed to be longer would be longer episodes and stories that were more side stories wouldn't feel the need to maintain a full episode length. But at least then the story would be contained.
Instead this anime adaptation feels like it happens in a matter of days instead of a longer period. It's just a shame because this manga of all of Junji Ito's works deserved a faithful adaptation.

Whatever budget they had for the first episode was devoured by a spiral for episode two. The first had rotoscoping but I didn't see any of that in the second. They went from Uzumaki standing alone among Juni Ito's adaptations to another episode of the Junji Ito Collection.
If this came out when it was originally slated back in 2022 I could excuse it as rushed. But they pushed it back at least twice. So I have no evidence this was pushed back for quality.
Compare this to Pluto(fantastic limited-run anime) which fell off the radar completely after a brief clip teasing it but when it finally aired it was clear production took its time.
Uzumaki deserved better.

This is a fun movie if you go into it not expecting Shawshank Redemption or The Godfather. It's full of references for fans but I can understand why non-fans would have a hard time with it. See it in a theater full of fans if you can. That made it so much more enjoyable.
Critics hate it but there's a lot they fawn over that doesn't interest me at all.
The production design is great. The animatronics are amazing. They really make the movie.
If you're a fan it's a no-brainer to watch this. Some of the plot may be different than what you've come to know with the FNAF games but it's still good as a standalone film.
Just watch it.
