Kapoor & Sons is not what you think it is.It's not your Kar gayi chull type of movie with party songs and slapstick comedy which double dares you to laugh. It's a film very high on drama and equally high on fun. There are moments of joy, love, hate, fear, anguish and anxiety in every sequence of the film, a very rare feat to achieve. And they not only stay with you while the movie is running, they stay with you much after the movie is over. I almost cried in the later part of the movie(Enough Said!), not because there were too much emotions but it's just appropriate enough that you feel like it is your story. You could totally connect yourselves with whatever is happening, so much so that if you stay away from your family you feel like stop doing whatever you are doing and be with them again.Just one hug to them and a hug as hard as it can be. Just one hug.
What makes Kapoor & Sons great?
Well, it's every aspect there is in a movie. But the most of all is the screenplay and the performances. It is the juxtaposition of the events and the constant switching of camera over two scenes simultaneously taking place, that shows the craftsmanship of Shakun Batra, the director and also screenwriter(sharing credit with Ayesha Devitre Dhillon) of the movie. For example, there is this scene where the husband(Harsh) and the wife(Sunita) is fighting in the kitchen while Dadaji is angry on some other old aged person over the game of cards in the garden area and then both of the events gets merged and the resultant action takes place , same goes with Tia confronting Arjun and Rahul confronting his mother,Sunita. And don't get me started with the performances. Rishi Kapoor,Rajat Kapoor,Fawad Khan,Ratna Pathak Shah,Alia Bhatt and Siddhartha Malhotra.Oh boy! what a cast. The comic timing of Rishi Kapoor, the seriousness of Fawad Khan and the innocence of Ratna Pathak Shah(the Sarabhai Lady) are the notable ones which is going to stay with us.
Maybe the ending is predictable but the journey is way way more unpredictable. Kapoor & Sons is a very rare movie and a brilliant example of how family drama should be. It sets the bar high enough for a movie of this kind. A movie so good that its screaming loudly for you to watch it.

With a very serious and critical crisis of how someone's character is judged these days, especially women, Pink is hard-hitting and a very satisfying movie, having Bachchan leading from the front. Only if, Taapsee(Meenal) had given a better performance, it would have been much better. Maybe if there was an Alia Bhatt or a Deepika Padukone, the casting would have been justified.Even Piyush Mishra is not used rightfully. He is speaking in a loud manner, as if he is reading one of his poems in 3x speed. Nevertheless, the performances are not bad and Bachchan shines, even when he is silent for most of the time, waiting for his turn to come in the court room and when he starts speaking, he would have the audience clapping in between with his sarcastic one liners. It's one of the best films of the year and a much needed one in these times. Go watch it.
P.S: In case, if it matters, the audience was indeed clapping in the end and in between. This is something that I have really not seen in years.

Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani-:A movie which does tickle you at times but never takes itself seriously, which might have been the best thing if those heavy messages weren't there.YJHD tries to be at multiple boats throughout its run time.A bit of ZNMD,flavour of Swades and portions of IHLS makes the whole of YJHD.
Ayan Mukherji who made the wonderful Wake Up Sid which was so simple in itself that even flying birds will look somewhat more complex in front of it and it became the USP of Wake Up Sid.But here Ayan is taking YJHD to a commercial level by selecting heavy locations, adding glamour and using chart busters which weren't there in Wake Up Sid.This ultimately transfers the bar to the other side which the movie was making.
Nevertheless, the movie does take you to a joyride in the first half and in bits and pieces in the second half. Some truly fun moments are there which really are worth mentioning. The chumma chumma de de sequence,aditi(kalki)-so-desperate-to-fight sequence and Ranbir-flirting sequences. The performance of Ranbir is a not-much-not-less kind of performance. It's an appropriate mix of a charmer,a believer,a good dancer and a dream follower.Deepika is so good in her Geek-naina,Independent-Naina and Lover-Naina character.A genuine performance by her.Kalki is so much fun each and every time she appears. The new pjyakkar and sharabi of Bollywood has arrived. He(Aditya Roy Kapoor) should learn how to control his facial expression while delivering his dialogues rather than doing roles of a sharabi.Faarooq Sheikh is awesome in his cameo. But the real hero or rather star of YJHD is Pritam Chakraborty. His compositions are sometimes rocking and sometimes so soulful that stands tall or even compromises for some dull moments in the movie.Hats Off to the Genius.Chart busters such as Badtameez Dil,Ghaghra,Dilliwali Girlfriend and soulful tracks like Shubhanallah,Kabira and Illahi are there. The music is for the classes as well as the masses. The movie suffers too much while giving messages which needed a deft touch.Inspite of some fun moments there really are less no. of high points in the movie.
It could've been a much better movie if they had done some more work on the script.Watch it for it's Music,Ranbir-Deepika and last but not the least Madhuri's comeback.
