So! I first saw this film in 1991 and I thought it was fine. Didn't like Costner, thought it was preachy and sooooo long. But in 2020 - bought a jigsaw of every film that had won best picture. And for the last three years have been working through them (btw - any movie lover HAS to watch Wings). Anyway - just sat down for a rewatch. (Imagine my disappointment when I realized I got the 4 hour director's cut? Four hours!) But - without seeing the earlier version again - maybe this one was better. This is a good movie - Costner not so great, but still important. Visually beautifully - and I've changed my rating from 6 to 7. But it really is 7.5.
Not normally a 'binger' - but wow! I've stopped at episode four because I'm really tired - but this show is wonderful. Unlike other streaming shows that hook you in for the the first two episodes and then pad and pad until the finale - every episode so far has progressed the storyline. The acting is fantastic, the storyline is out there (but also relatable), the direction is spot on, and the moments when the realization of what has happened around them... I cannot wait to finish this series. I've heard it called 'Lord of the Flies' with private school women - but that's dismissive of how truly well thought out, and well written this show is. Just love it.
