  • Experience from the filming

The show was filmed at the Osmond Studio in Orem, Utah. I was there for the filming.

It was November 1980 and it was very cold outside. For Marie's opening introduction she was outside the studio on a boom. You can see her make an off script comment about the cold. She was out there for several shots and her brothers were inside the studio, as most of us were. One of them was getting worried and said something like " She's cold, I have to go check this out" and went outside to check up on her.

Staying at the condo's reserved for the stars were Peggy Flemming, Doug Henning, and director Walter C. Miller.

At the time Donny was married and drove a little two seat car. I'm not sure what kind but I think it was kit built. Marie was single and driven around by her body guard Devon a big Samoan with an accent and a heck of a nice guy. They had sold the family limo and used a blue and white Cadillac Seville I believe.

Some sound tracks were laid down at the family recording studio in Provo at their old residence across from BYU. Down in the basement was a fully professional studio. There Doug Henning, Donny, and others recorded sound tracks for the show. While Doug Henning didn't play an instrument or sing, he timed is routine to the music, or perhaps the other way around. He was constantly practicing with his fingers even when the music wasn't going.

Fans lined up outside the studio to be part of the audience. When they saw the blue and white Cadillac coming they got excited and started jumping up and down. I guess they knew what car the family owned.

The concert shots where everyone has a part singing seemingly were done in one take. I'm sure it was practiced over and over. To the audience it was one big show without breaks and cuts.
