Is this the slowest, most unaware man to ever live or is this an act? Judging by all of his specials I've seen, it's his stage persona. But it's wearing thin. We get it, your wife knows & does everything for you & you mumble & stumble your way through life. This man is my age, 45. This whole aloof act might have been funny as a newly married man in his 20's or even 30's, but you can't expect me to believe he has made it to the ripe old age of 45 not knowing anything. I guess I might choose Nate Bargatze if I was unaware of what comedy was and didn't know of any other comedians. But, he's shot to the top of the charts, though, so what do I really know? I guess a lot of people find this schtick hilarious. But, Joe Rogan has a lot of fans too. So, go figure.
Every now & then you see a piece of art that hits you in the soul & you realize how necessary it was. This is one such performance. Cliff begins his special doing his best impression of what you *think* a "country boy" is. But you'll learn, as things develop, what it truly is. Humility, hard work, empathy & yes, the famous hospitality. Cash takes you on a ride through his life growing up in North Carolina being raised by conservative parents. He'll explore how his own political ideology developed & how unconditional love taught him one of the greatest lessons. This might not sound like a comedy special but I guarantee it is. I cried, both from laughter & familiar compassion. I'm so proud to see such a gem come from the same hometown I was raised in. A red area of NC that doesn't always get the best coverage, but definitely builds strong character. Let Cliff Cash take you on this journey with him. You'll be glad you did.
Instead of finalizing her career as a comic with something irreverent or groundbreaking, she chose a stale recounting of the last 2 year's headlines. Nothing special & no way to end your groundbreaking career. Ellen has always leaned into her dry approach to comedy but I don't think it suited her here. Yes, we know people called you mean, and if that's not true, that's terrible. One retelling would have sufficed. Ellen carved her own path & she doesn't technically need comedy like most standups, but I sure wish she had gone out with a bang since this is her last special.
It seems she needed this adoration more than she needed the laughs.
