I've never seen a person display such raw emotion and loss before, either in a film or in real life. I had to watch the last several minutes of episode 4 over and over again and it almost broke me. I don't know what kind of awards the Brits give out for acting, but Stephen Graham certainly deserves one. At no point did I feel like I was watching something scripted or written, but that I was watching instead something real, captured on film as it happened. I felt like I was invading the privacy of this family so many times throughout each episode. The pain parents endure when their child goes wrong, and the guilt they feel, is tangible here. Incredible acting by all, but - again - Stephen Graham's performance is a master class. Truly remarkable.
Max is cute and engaging, someone you'd want to grab a drink with. The guy is boring and predictable. TBH, the whole thing is predictable. I've yet to see a Canadian crime show that's believable. This show has zero imagination and ridiculously bad plots. The dialogue is meh as well. It's formulaic in the extreme. Yet I still find myself watching it. I guess it's the actress - she's adorable, if totally unbelievable. It'll probably start to bore me to death soon - even a pretty face can't hold a viewer's attention for so long. Maybe there'll be an episode soon that hits it out of the ballpark, but I'm not holding my breath.
