  • 39 episodes makes sense

Some people are puzzled as to why this (and other) series had exactly 39 episodes. Why not 40? Because if you split a 52-week year into 4 quarters, each would have 13 weeks. Two quarters = 26 weeks, 3 quarters = 39 weeks.

  • Not a spinoff.

I suppose this is a minority view, but I do not consider Blansky's Beauties to be a spinoff of Happy Days. The facts are these: Nancy Walker appeared as Nancy Blansky in a cameo on the Happy Days Third Anniversary Show, Feb 5 1977. Blansky's Beauties debuted one week later on Feb 12.

So yes, Nancy Blansky appeared on Happy Days before she appeared on Blansky's Beauties. But the fact remains that Blansky's Beauties existed as a series, in every way except having been broadcast, before the Happy Days cameo, which I would therefore classify as a crossover.

  • Where's the sexism?

Yes, this is a wonderfully gritty, no-nonsense cop yarn. What struck me is: Where's the sexism? Where's the condescension? Where's the "Oh, ya gonna arrest me, Officer Sweetie Pie?" This was the Fifties, right? It's a cop show with a twist: a cop who gets emotional over what she sees and what she has to do. But Casey Jones never, and I mean never, lets it get in the way of her completely professional approach to her job. She works with male officers, and they are nothing if not equals, comrades in arms. And for those of you who know Beverly Garland only from the fluff of My Three Sons, have you got a surprise coming. Great entertainment all the way around. And for something a little snappier, try Front Page Detective.
