On a regular day, 4 men hijack a NYC subway train. They are Mr Blue - Robert Shaw - Mr Green Mr Grey and Mr Brown. They manage to seperate the car with 18 hostages aboard. Now, Mr Blue reaches a Lt Garber - Walter Matthau - on the subway phone. Blue demands 1 million dollars in 1 hour or he starts killing hostages. They have to wake up the Mayor to get the money ball rolling. As the race against time begins, Blue and Garber change barbs all the way. Will the hijackers succeed? This exciting film, with twists, turns, and shocks, also features great performances, especially from Matthau and Shaw. Take time to watch Taking.
A rich man's son goes missing, hunting for diamonds deep into the congo. Ouch. Therefore, Mr Moneybags hires his sons ex girlfriend, a Doctor, and a shady diamond hunter to find the son. Also going along is a primate expert, who wants to take a female gorilla back to her home in Africa. This gorilla speaks sign language which is then translated into a spoken voice. It's her idea to find her roots. Naturally, the perils of the African jungle are many. Worst of all, the diamond mine may be guarded by unusual beings. Can they find the lost son? This beautiful to look at film is exciting but the plot elements are sometimes absurd. There's a fine cast, however. Despite odds, you might enjoy Congo.
In the early 1970s, a space probe returns from places far away and lands near small town Piedmont, AZ. The townsfolk die almost instantly, except for an older man and a baby. Assuming that an alien life form is the cause, an established protocol begins. 5 chosen scientists are called immediately to a hidden underground space lab. The old man and baby come along, as does a sample of the life form. Outside, the area around Piedmont was supposed to have been hit by nuclear weapons but this is delayed. Now, the team must find out what the life form is and how to stop it from killing all beings on Earth. There may be very little time for such a discovery. Can they do it? This film, based on a book by Michael Crichton, is as scary as Alien without the monster. A tiny organism could kill off the Earth by turning blood to powder in seconds. Only 5 people can find out how to stop it...how's that for good odds? The cast is largely unknown, more money was spent on special effects and gadgetry. Yet, the movie works very well. If you like intelligent science fiction, go find the Andromeda Strain.
