Timothée Chalamet at his absolute best. A character you can never quite pin down, constantly slipping through your grasp. The Safdie-style, anxiety-inducing editing is in full force, propelling the story into genuinely wild territory. Proof that with the right execution, you can make any premise completely compelling.
The premise is great. Knives out story that is a criticism of religion and the church. But it felt forced. Something that was not done in the first movie and is even worse than the 2nd movies "it's just dumb". The Motley crew of suspects were underwhelming with exception of the two pastors. They were completely forgettable.
The humor was actually really enjoyable even when you realize the movie really shouldn't have it. At least to this extent. And it's not the satirical, shitty personality humor that the 1st/2nd movie has. Now its Blanc doing just straight up comedy bits while investigating a murder. The novelty of this franchise is not there anymore so the subtle backstories feel like the biggest clue or foreshadowing of what came to be a very underwhelming reveal.
Speaking of the summation/reveal at the end. It went on for way too long and felt way to grandiose for the character that ends up actually doing it. The murder plot was just way too much. Like it needed to be so complex so that no one could ever guess it.
