  • Absolutely Outstanding!

If you're not a fan of rock-n-roll, then don't watch it, and don't comment on it.

However, if you love Rock-N-Roll, if you love Zombies who bring you slippers (well, that's what it looks like he's doing.), if you love UFO's, and if you love a man wearing hot pants, then this movie is for you! This is good campy trashy fun! This is also most definitely a party movie. Get some friends (if you don't have any), and get some alcohol, and play the drinking game. (Simple: Take a drink anytime somebody a) says Rock-N-Roll, b) comes their hair c)anytime anything blows up and d) anytime fire shoots out of anything) Don't chug when these things happen, because if you do, you'll pass out before the movie is over. Small sips and you'll finish two beers by the end of the movie. If you want to drink more, add the following categories: e) anytime anyone drinks, f) anytime a heart appears.

The acting is decent, the zombies are zombies, the rock-n-roll is fantastic (where can I get the soundtrack?) - aside from a slight lull after the start, mostly due to some slack editing, everything is just as it good as it should be for a B-movie.

If you didn't like this movie, you take life too seriously and should consider therapy.

  • a movie as a tone poem.

An overweight cook who lives with and works for his mother, develops a crush on a young waitress who comes to work for their diner. However, what do you say when you're 30, overweight, have never gone anywhere, never kissed a girl, and rarely speak more than three words a day? Not everyone will get this movie. Having said that, it's a work of beauty. A simple story line, with minimal drama, dealing with a situation that could happen to anyone, except that it happens with someone who is unable to express himself. The simple pulse of this movie beats and builds slowly, and doesn't sweep you away, but leaves you to contemplate life in someone else's shoes. Excellent cinematography, a haunting original score by Thurston Moore, and a story that's so fresh simply because of it's ordinary nature.

We need more films like this. I was disappointed to find that James Mangold has since gone on to write and direct some movies, which are quite overblown. However, this one was pragmatic and elegant.
