I can see why people would rate this a 10 in 1981 and I can't even fault those people who rate it a 10 today. It's a 7.5 for me. While this movie still holds up in some regards, its story is what lowered the score for me. It was its weakest element. It just felt a bit dull by today's standards. And I'm still not entirely sure what the hell came out of the Ark at the end.
More of my other small issues came from some of the editing and sound. There were weird editing moments throughout where I felt as though I had whiplash. And some of the verbal dialogue was out of sync, echoey, or just plain inaudible. Luckily we're here for Indy's cave running antics and not for the sharp dialogue so it didn't ruin too much of the movie for me.
Overall, a really good not great movie that I'll probably watch again if it's on tv but won't add to my all time faves list or anything like that.

Black Panther is a top three Marvel film for me so my excitement and expectations heading into this one were sky high. Did it meet those expectations? Not quite.
Like many of the other reviewers I felt there was just too much going on. It all felt extremely packed in and none of it was explained very well with events occurring and then no really explanation of how we got to where we were.
I really, really love the idea of an underwater civilization but unfortunately I just didn't really care about their existence which is a real shame because there hasn't been anything like it in the Marvel universe yet. The underwater scenes were also just way too dark to experience this new world. They also didn't do a good job of making any of those characters matter to me. Not to mention they tried to explain their motivations in a three minute montage backstory which felt cheesy almost and like a throwaway obligation to get it out of the way.
Shurry is one of the most compelling MCU characters (that isn't a superhero per se) but I felt like they mismanaged her story arc. Same goes for Ironheart. I don't even know why she was in this film other than to simply introduce her before her series.
With all of that being said I do feel like the action scenes were spot on. The soundtrack was again solid. It is about right in the middle in terms of MCU content so it's not a total failure. Unfortunately it had big shoes to fill and its feet were just a smidge too small.

Overall it was enjoyable and easy in a low stakes kind of way. A delightfully fun nostalgia throwback for a certain generation. I think that's where part of my issue with it comes in. I think the filmmakers tried to settle in between this being a kids movie and it having adult themed elements to it. The filmmakers made it rated PG but I think it would've been a much better film if they leaned more PG-13. For example, the end scene of the movie with Dr. Robotnik in the mushroom world even felt like it had a little more edge to it. I would've loved to see that edge carried over into the rest of the movie.
James Marsden was a good choice for the everyday man as Sonic's confidant and obviously Jim Carrey was great. But I don't think they utilized Carrey's presence as much as the could've. He felt contained while they should've let him do whatever the heck he wanted. Particularly as an "evil villain". This would've helped provide some of that edge I was looking for.
That's not to say the film is bad, it's just not good. It's somewhere right in the middle.
