In this Polish short film, an older couple with twin daughters unexpectedly have a cute baby boy. Convinced that his birth is divine, they decide to name him Jesus. But this leaves their friends, neighbors, and relatives in big shock. Apparently, in Polish society, giving a child to such name is seen as audacious and very unconventional.
The premise feels a bit weak for a 30-minute short, though there is also an additional (albeit somewhat bland) coming of age theme woven in the film. The twin sisters, Anna and Joanna, have contrasting personalities so they tend to bicker with each other many times. One sister is outgoing and obsessed with the school's popular boy, while the other is shy and introverted. And the whole story is told through the eyes of the quiet one. Even though the use of actresses in their mid-20s as teenagers undermines the believability a bit, I appreciated that real-life twins played the roles.
Despite all its flaws, this short successfully managed to make me feel like a guest in a Polish household in the early 2000s and it contains a few small details I genuinely liked. So it's worth giving a chance.

This classy French film, shot nearly 40 years ago, is one of those movies that makes me feel like cinema has deteriorated in quality over time.
It features two characters (who feel no need for curtains in their homes) who are madly in love with someone: the weird, partially bald Monsieur Hire, and young and beautiful Alice, a sharp girl from the country who is inexperienced in life.
With its magnificent use of music, its concise and engaging runtime of less than 75 minutes, and a cleverly written script that proves a story doesn't have to be complex to be smart, this film won me over. And of course, it delivers one of the most impressive final scenes I've seen in a long time, which compelled me to write about it.
Well, I can't deny my fondness for love stories with a beauty and beast theme.
Ladies and gentlemen, this one here, is a truly beautiful movie!

Watching this British film about a troubled teenager, a peeping tom who has made a habit of climbing to high places and spying on people with his binoculars, was quite enjoyable. While it contains many classic elements of the coming-of-age genre, it also includes some extra varied pieces of details.
I could easily predict that those Freudian thinkers would be absolutely thrilled while watching this film. Although I definitely don't consider myself one, I still found it entertaining.
The film flowed smoothly, and except for our creepy main character, everybody in it, even the small side characters, managed to earn my sympathy, which is pretty uncommon in a coming of age type movie.
It's an ideal film to kill some time: charming, based on a novel, and should be watched without having overly high expectations.
