This film is exactly the one that I have always wanted to see of the X-Men. To know that they have so many great story arcs to do, and the ending of this one leads us nicely into the best of them, is wonderful. I hope that this film makes Spiderman-amounts of money and they give us the rest that they promise here. The cast do a great job, the writers have the characters down, and the special effects (including the BAMF sound) are spot-on. A tremendous sequel, it rightly assumes you've seen the first one and it dives right into the action. Smashing stuff, go and see it.
I came across this film on BBC2 late at night one time only in the early eighties. I've never seen it again, and I would love to. There are moments in this film which will make you wet yourself laughing. Puppy on the pavement anyone? If this movie ever shows up on your TV schedules, set the video, pop open a beer or five and watch a totally underrated classic. Dick Van Dyke makes up for his horrendous "Gawd bless yer, Mary Poppins" accent with this one movie. Watch it - and any TV schedulers out there who can get this on British TV again, DO IT!
Wow, I want to see it again. Right now. I love the books and this film is as good as I could ever have hoped it to be. The casting and performances are superb, the cinematography, effects ,props and locations are right about perfect. This had better be a packed out, three disc DVD because I want to know everything about how this wonderful piece of movie-making accomplished what it has done.
Go and see it, then read the books again because it's the only way that you'll be able to cope with the 12 months until the next one comes to the screen.
