This is obviously just a vehicle to promote his daughter's music career which is why she is the hero of the film.

You can tell the difference when M Night cares (sixth sense, unbreakable, the village, signs, the visit, split, Knock at the Cabin,) and when he doesn't care (last airbender, the happening, after earth, Old). And of course there are some stinkers which he did try to make seriously: Glass.

Trap is firmly in the "he didn't care" genre where he just churns something out for some personal reason, but you can tell his heart isn't in it.

This movie was in par with a loony tunes cartoon.

A documentary made too soon, as the verdicts were far from being sentenced.

Some scenes where they talk to the criminals' parents drag for emotional effect but don't land and hurt the run time.

The folklore segment is solid.

The footage of the courtroom, psychologists diagnosis, interrogations, and confessions are insightful.

However, apart from the real footage of the case Itself, the documentary missed the mark and fails to show Peyton/ Bella-the victim's side of the story.

Not even an attempt to reach out to her family?

Probably should have waited a few more years before making this documentary.
